In this post you will find my Logitech Z 5500 review and some suggestions I have after you buy it. We bought the Logitech Z5500 audio system a few years back, since they were on sale and I still believe it is one of the best speaker systems available on the market. During the time I got it, Klipsch also made the ProMedia Ultra 5.1 speaker setup that was far more expensive than the deal I got on the Logitech system. Since there were such incredible evaluations on the Logitech Z-5500, We decided to go buy it instead. Another plus was the fact that the Logitech system were built with a bigger subwoofer at 10 inches compared to Klipsch with just an 8 inch sub. The entire time I have had the Logitech setup I am continually impressed with the sound that comes out of them for music, gamin and watch movies.
Of course one of the favorite parts I like about the system is the bass and it seems no matter how high I crank it, there is no distortion. The watts are spec’d at 188 watts RMS but this sub even at just 10 inches, hands down crushes most HTIB subwoofers. I can’t give the sub enough credit but the purchase price on this system is easily worth just getting the sound out of this subwoofer. We bought this system before we were real sound quality enthusiast, and now that I know more about audio systems I am really blown away with the quality of the Logitech Z5500 speakers. For all of you out there that are audiophiles you may find that there is a slight loss in some of the mid range sounds but that’s just how it goes with a satellite speaker system and is not really that big of a deal in my opinion since most of the sounds you really notice are highs and low. The crossover more than makes up for the mids and sounds great. Once again this system blows away $1000 systems I have heard.
The are the standard PC connections for audio as well as optical (yellow) and digital coax (red and white) which allows you to use the system for different uses. I merely wanted the Logitech Z5500 system for DTS quality sound, but the speakers even pass the rigorous tests to be certified as THX sound. It has been 3 years since we bought and installed this system and besides installing a complete thousand dollar home audio system, I have not been able to find a system in the Z5500 class that compares. Most people think the rating at 505 watts is the peak like other systems in its class but the 505 watts are the RMS output, so they can really crank up the sound that comes out of them. The center speaker is 69 watts and the other satellite speakers put out 62 watts on their own. Knowing that the system puts out 505 watts has made some people think I should switch out the speakers with different ones but the truth is the crossover makes these satellites sound flawless.
One thing that bothers me about some electronics, is the length of wire thy give you. This is not the case with this product, there is plenty to hook it up where you want to. This system uses real audio wiring unlike other types of computer speaker systems. This allows you to be able to hook up any length of cord. The receiver has a great look to it and all the buttons on the remote are very intuitive for easy use. The batteries that come with the Logitech Z5500 system are by a company called Eastpower and they make incredible batteries because I have not replaced them since I bought the speaker system.
You will definitely never have to look for a new computer speak system again and if you want to upgrade the sound system further all you have to do is get a good sound card. I would avoid getting a Creative sound card but the HT Omega is perfect and is what we have installed on our computer. Remember when you get this system you are getting a THX certified speaker system and it is right on up there with high priced home entertainment systems. I hope you found this Logitech Z5500 review helpful and that it helped pushed you over the edge on deciding to get it, because once you do you will be thankful and know you made the best choice.
